About the Livestock Project

The 4-H Livestock project allows youth to learn leadership, citizenship, and life skills through hands-on learning opportunities. Participants gain independent responsibility, knowledge of production agriculture, and science through their projects. Youth can participate in the following project areas:

Are you or your child interested in participating in the 4-H Livestock Project this 4-H Year (2026-27), please contact the St. John Parish 4-H Office and speak with the 4-H Agent.

Upcoming Livestock Deadlines

  • August 2026: Validation for steers
  • November 2026: Validation for commercial heifers, market lambs, commercial ewes, market goats, and commercial does
  • November 2026: Possession for breeding beef, sheep, goat, dairy, and exhibition poultry
  • November 2026: Possession for mini cattle
  • November 2026: Broiler Chick Orders Due
  • December 2026: Validation for market and commercial hog
  • December 2026: Possession for breeding swine
  • January 2027: Pick up Broiler Chicks
